Failed the credit check ?!

Main Post:

I stood flabbergasted in the Freedom Mobile store yesterday when she said I failed the credit check and couldn’t get a phone.

According to credit karma my score is very good, so I had her check again. Nope.

I am paying a ridiculous amount with Rogers and wanted to switch yesterday but I left the store without doing anything. I could have put the $50 deposit and got a phone after 6 months but I think that may affect me bringing my whole family plan over. I left before finding out.

What do you have to have for a credit score to get a plan with a phone? Seems like a ridiculously high threshold.

Top Comment: I had the same issue, until I watched them enter the info and told them to spell my name correctly - then all was good. Might be name or cc # they are entering incorrectly. Try a different store.

Citi Secured Graduation Fail

Main Post:

Wondering if this has happened to others and their thoughts:

In August 2019, I got the Citi secured card for a (stupidly low) $200 cl. Earlier this year, I asked if I could add to the deposit and was told no. Anyway, when I got the card my score was 541 Experian 8, Vantage 3 Transunion 565.

Fast forward to this week... My Experian 8 is 640, Transunion 8 636. I have never once carried a balance with Citi, paying in full weekly and rarely reporting a balance over $30 as a result.

I got a letter in the mail from Citi and got excited thinking this was the big graduation day. Instead, I get another year of secured status.

Let me know what you think and what to do.

What is suppressing your scores currently? Do you have any other open accounts? How do they look utilization and age wise?

Bank shares slide as Credit Suisse rescue fails to quell contagion fears

I think they need people to not to do panic bank runs, but their only options are to either say nothing and let panic bank runs happen, or say anything and let panic bank runs happen faster.

Arrived in Tokyo - credit and debit card both fail at every ATM or register - and I'm running out of cash

Main Post:

So everyone on Reddit swore up and down it's normal and reliable to use Mastercard and Amex in Japan.

So I arrived with a small pocketful of starter cash expecting to use my cards for most things. As the title says, however, neither my Amex nor my MC debit card work at all here. Also, I've run into multiple people having similar problems. WTF.

Because nothing is working, I have now no known way to obtain more cash without finding some kind of workaround like paying a stranger from PayPal and having them draw cash using their own card.

Anyone have any experience with this, tips, or advice?

Note: I DO NOT HAVE AN IPHONE. It is an Android. Do not suggest Apple Pay.

EDIT:

Got hold of my credit union at last, Visa is rushing an emergency card and cash to me. Also got Google Pay tap working where that's accepted - thank you to the person(s) who clarified this works (vs the bad info I was getting from other threads)!

Top Comment: Did you try calling your bank? They might be blocking transactions on your cards

Prizerebel offers that NEVER fail to credit for me

Main Post:

Hello all!

I've used prizerebel for quite a while. I've made over 400 dollars on it lifetime. (Sadly they took away their lifetime points meter, but I had roughly 385 a few months back) Keep in mind one point on prizerebel is 1 cent.

Anyways, sometimes it can be really hard to find offers that will want to credit you. Nothing is more frustrating than following all the steps of an offer then having it not credit. However, there are some offers that always seem to want to give me points, and I'm sure they'll do it for you too!

I'd link to offers, but because of prizerebel's revamp, no offers have their own pages anymore. Either way, most of the ones I'm going to describe show up on the front page pretty often.

RewardTV: Usually this offer starts off in Spanish. Chrome will translate it quite easily for you. Just sign up and pick out two TV shows, then click "start game". You don't even have to answer questions correctly, but it will quiz you on them. Also about ads seen during the show. Doesn't take too long and usually nets you 40 points.

ANYTHING AT ALL REGARDING THE EYEFILE SYSTEM OR CONTACT LENSES: If you see one, look a little further down on the front page and make sure it's the highest point oone at the moment. There's usually more than one at a time. I have done these offers roughly 8 or 9 times with different emails and they ALWAYS credit. Just click the ad on the page you're linked to, follow the sign up, and wait. Most of these offers credit on the half hour or the hour.

Xiaflex/Dupuytrens Contracture: Very easy offer always. Just click through the ad, click "find a doctor", and search your area code. I think this one has been getting a bit tired of my IP Address, but it's a reliable offer. (literally JUST did one and got credited, so I think we're good)

VIP Voice and other survey reward signup sites: Usually pretty reliable. If there's an error it's usually my fault. Just sign up for the site, complete their welcome survey, and maybe one other. These offers are usually only worth it if they're over 50 points. Oh, and don't forget to click you confirmation email! ;)

Nicoderm coupon: Never seen this one before, but I just did it roughly 3 seconds ago, and it credited as soon as I clicked on the link. didn't even have to sign up. Hop on it, I bet it won't be there long.

Hilton Honors: Another signup and confirmation email. Just go through the motions.

AARP: If you feel like lying about your age and have a multitude of email addresses, enter your info as an over 45 year old person and again, just sign up and confirm your email.

Actual surveys: These are hard to qualify for at times, and can take a long time, but I have never, EVER had a single survey I took fail to credit me. and they can run up to 200 points (2 dollars)

Games: Any online games or downloaded games credit really well too! Just sign up and play the game (AKA leave it runinng) for a little bit and you're good to go!

Credit Card offers: These may not be for everyone, but they are the highest paying and most reliable offers on prizerebel (Usually in the external offers tab though) Sign up for free trials, cancel before you get charged (even enjoy the service for a bit!) and you're good to go. Gamefly and crunchyroll come to mind.

Never EVER do one of the offers that says "Say yes to three items on the survey" or anything like that. I almost never get credit from those, and they're the main sources of spam in my inbox.

As you can see, most of the most reliable offers on prizerebel are the signup/click confirmation email offers. There are a few great other ones I mentioned, but these are the quickest ways to get points.

If you wanna try it out and haven't already, here's a link to prizerebel!

If you really liked my demonstration, be my referral!

Thank you for reading, and I hope you all enjoy the fabulous website prizerebel is :)

When is a credit D fail appropriate?

Main Post:

I think I’m going to end a language class with a B-/ C. My major is STEM related however, I don’t want grad schools so look poorly on my application due to this grade. I’ve been thinking about credit D failing the course but I’m not sure. I’m not sure when to use a credit D fail.

Top Comment: Grad schools won’t care, but you won’t be able to use that course for your language requirements if you credit D fail it.

Sauder follows suit! Credit/D/Fail

Main Post: Sauder follows suit! Credit/D/Fail

Not sure if anyone would know this but if you had an award (Sauder Specific) that states you can’t have a certain amount of C/D/Fs, would this semester be an exception to that rule?

What happens if you fail a course first year???

Main Post:

I think I’m gonna fail a course. How Will it show up on your transcript? If I failed a course, do I have to retake that exact course again? Can I take another course instead. Also, will it affect my average and still be used when calculating my GPA, and will this affect my chances of applying to graduate programs after my degree? I think I will prob fail 1-2 courses this year

Top Comment: It will show up as an F on your transcript. If the course is required, you have to retake the course or take another one that has the same descendants unless you want to aim for a different specialization. I think the failing grade would be used to calculate your GPA (not sure). I don't think failing a course in first year will have a great impact on graduate school admission.

What's going on with banking right now?

Main Post:

Banking was not in the news until the SVB collapse, but now it's all over the place. And the vibe is definitely not good. I've seen disparate articles about banks needing additional funding, imminent collapse, fear of bank runs, etc. (ie. here, and here )Can anyone tie this all together for me and paint me a broader picture?
